Description

Glenthmycin E is an antibacterial agent found in Australian sheep pasture-derived Streptomyces sp. CMB-PB041. Glenthmycin E inhibits growth of multiple bacterial and exhibits no detectable cytotoxicity to eukaryotic cells including fungal and human carcinoma cells. Glenthmycin E can be used for the research of bacterial infections[1].

In Vitro

Glenthmycin E (0.01-30 μM; 16-24 h) inhibits the growth of Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 (IC50 = 4.9 μM), Enterococcus faecalis (IC50 = 6.2 μM), methicillin-resistant S. aureus ATCC 43300 (IC50 = 3.9 μM), methicillin-resistant S. aureus ATCC 33591 (IC50 = 2.3 μM), and vancomycin-resistant Enterococci (IC50 = 3.2 μM)[1].
Glenthmycin E (48 h) does not exhibit significant cytotoxicity against SW620 or NCI-H460 human carcinoma cells (IC50 >30 μM), nor does it inhibit growth of Candida albicans, Escherichia coli, Mycobacterium bovis BCG, or Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Ra at concentrations up to 30 μM[1].
