D-cysteic acid competitively inhibits L-aspartate and L-alanine self-exchange via reconstituted Tetragenococcus halophilus AspT, with greater potency against L-aspartate self-exchange (K_i = 0.14 mM; IC₅₀ = 0.19 mM) than L-alanine self-exchange (K_i = 5.0 mM; IC₅₀=9.0 mM)^[1].
D-Cysteic acid is formed via oxidation of L-cysteine with performic acid at 50°C for 15 min^[2].
