  3. L-Cysteine hydrochloride

L-Cysteine hydrochloride is an orally active conditionally essential amino acid, which acts as a precursor for biologically active molecules such as hydrogen sulphide (H2S), glutathione and taurine. L-Cysteine hydrochloride suppresses ghrelin and reduces appetite in rodents. L-Cysteine hydrochloride inhibits Aspergillus flavus growth and AFB synthesis by disrupting cell structure and antioxidant system balance. L-Cysteine hydrochloride enhances relaxant responses of rat aortic rings to NO and reduces responses to endothelium-derived relaxing factor (EDRF).

In Vitro

L-Cysteine hydrochloride (1 and 3 mM) significantly reduced acetylcholine (0.01-10 μM) induced relaxations in rat aortic rings[3].

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

In Vivo

L-Cysteine hydrochloride (oral gavage or i.p., 4 mmol/kg or 2 mmol/kg, a single dose for 1 h) decreases food intake in rodents, suppresses plasma ghrelin and increases neuronal activation in the rat brainstem[1].

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

Animal Model: Rats and mice fasted overnight[1]
Dosage: oral gavage administration of 4 mmol/kg, i.p. administration of 2 mmol/kg
Administration: orally gavage or i.p., a single dose for 1 h
Result: Dose-dependently decreased food intake in rats and mice and significantly reduced cFLI in the lateral hypothalamic area (LHA) in rats.

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
