Methylolanthanin
Methylolanthanin (para-MLL) is a natural small-molecule metallophore identified in the culture supernatant of Methylobacterium extorquens AM1. Methylolanthanin binds lanthanide metal ions such as La3+, Nd3+ and Lu3+. It is applicable to studies related to lanthanide metabolism, bacterial metallophores, metal homeostasis and methylotrophic metabolism.

Biological Activity
Methylolanthanin (para-MLL) (10 μM; 15 min) forms insoluble complexes with La3+, Nd3+, Eu3+, and Lu3+ at pH 6.0, causing the complexes to precipitate from the solution[1].
Methylolanthanin (18.75 μM) exhibits low iron (III)-binding affinity and only weak ability to compete with the CAS/HDTMA complex for Fe3+ at pH 6.0[1].
Methylolanthanin forms the [MLL-H+Ln3+]2+ complex with La3+, Nd3+ and Lu3+[2].
Methylolanthanin (50 nM) significantly increases the growth yield of M. extorquens AM1 ΔmxaF and ΔmxaFΔmll mutants under conditions of 2 μM or 50 nM NdCl3[2].
Methylolanthanin binds Eu3+ within the micromolar and nanomolar concentration ranges and forms detectable Eu3+-MLL particles, with a log KSP of -12.07 for the precipitated complex[3].
