Potassium silicate
Based on 1 Customer Validation
Potassium silicate acts as a silicon-containing foliar fertilizer and an inhibitor of rice blast. Foliar application of Potassium silicate to the susceptible rice cultivar 'Metica 1' reduces the incidence of rice blast caused by Pyricularia oryzae. Potassium silicate does not enhance silicon uptake or accumulation in rice plants. Potassium silicate can be used in studies related to rice blast.

Animal Model:Metica 1 (blast-susceptible)[1]
-
Dosage:1 g/L Si, 2 g/L Si, 4 g/L Si, 8 g/L Si, 16 g/L Si (pH 10.5); 2 g/L Si, 4 g/L Si, 8 g/L Si (pH 5.5)
-
Administration:Foliar spray; single dose
-
Result:Reduced rice blast incidence from 51% (control) to 26% at 16 g/L Si dose.
Achieved the greatest reduction in blast incidence at 4 g/L Si, regardless of solution pH.
Showed no significant increases in leaf silicon content, aboveground silicon content, aboveground dry matter, or panicle mass with any dose at either pH.
Resulted in leaf silicon concentrations ranging from 7 to 12 g/kg across treated plants, with no consistent dose-related increases relative to the control (11 g/kg Si).
