PRKX

PRKX encodes protein kinase X, a cAMP-regulated kinase on the X chromosome that belongs to the PKA catalytic subunit lineage (PRKX/PRKCB group) rather than the PRKACA/B/G set. It is expressed during fetal development in tissues such as kidney, liver and lung and in myeloid cells, where it supports myeloid differentiation. Unlike PKA C subunits, PRKX activity is not inhibited by the classical protein kinase inhibitor (PKI) peptide, a property used to distinguish it biochemically. PRKX also associates with developmental programs of the prostate and has been examined as a marker in prostate carcinoma. Recombinant PRKX is useful for studying non-canonical cAMP kinase signaling.
