SGK2

SGK2 is the middle member of the serum- and glucocorticoid-regulated kinase family and the least studied of the three SGK isoforms. It shares the AGC kinase fold and PDK1-dependent activation mechanism of SGK1 and SGK3 but shows lower overall expression, with notable transcript levels in kidney, brain and testis, and lacks a PX membrane-targeting domain. Reported activities include phosphorylation of FOXO3, which is shared with SGK1, and roles in ion transport and cell survival. Because SGK2 expression responds to stimuli differently than SGK1, recombinant SGK2 helps dissect isoform-specific functions within the SGK subfamily of PI3K-activated kinases.
