Description

Verbascose, an alacto-oligosac-charides (GOS), has potent immunostimulatory activity. Verbascose acts as a potential natural immunomodulatory agent[1].

In Vitro

Verbascose (25, 50, 100, 200, 400 μg/mL; 12, 24, 36, 48 hours) significantly increases the viability of RAW264.7 cells[1].
Verbascose has notable activity of promoting peritoneal macrophages to devour neutral red in a dose-dependent manner and exhibits its maximum activity of cell phagocytosis at a concentration of 200 μg/mL[1].
Verbascose induces significant increases of NO production. Verbascose can enhance the ability of devouring neutral red of peritoneal macrophages and promote the release of nitric oxide and immune reactive molecules such as interleukin (IL)-6, IL-1β, interferon (IFN)-α, and IFN-γ[1].

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

In Vivo

Verbascose (30, 90, 120 mg/kg/day; sc; for 8 days) at a medium dose of 90 mg/kg body weight can significantly increase the index of spleen, activity of lysozyme in spleen and serum, hemolysin level in serum, and swelling rate of earlap in the delayed type of hypersensitivity (DTH) of immunosuppressed female Kunming mice[1].

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
