Sickle cell disease (SCD) is a group of serious inherited blood disorders that cause red blood cells to twist and deform into a sickle shape. These cells can cause blood flow obstruction, leading to severe pain, organ damage, and premature death. β-thalassemia is a group of inherited blood disorders caused by reduced or absent synthesis of β-globin, resulting in anemia. WIZ is widely expressed and plays a role in targeting G9a/GLP histone methyltransferases to genomic sites to regulate chromatin structure and transcription.
