2,4-D Butyl ester is a phenoxyacetic acid herbicide used to control woody broadleaf weeds. 2,4-D Butyl ester shows high toxicity to fish and aquatic invertebrates. In animals, 2,4-D Butyl ester hydrolyzes to produce n-butanol, which further induces neurobehavioral toxicity such as ataxia in rats[1][2].

In Vitro

2,4-D Butyl ester (300 mg/L; 24 h) serves as the sole carbon source to support the optimal growth of Acinetobacter strain ZX02 in MSM medium at 29 °C and pH 7.0[1].

In Vivo

2,4-D Butyl ester (150 mg/kg/day; s.c.; daily; 3-4 consecutive days) produces significant ataxia in male Wistar rats, as measured by landing foot splay increases of 118-124% of vehicle levels on days 3 and 4[2].
