5-Methoxyluzindole
5-Methoxyluzindole is a partial Melatonin Receptor agonist with a high-affinity Ki value of 3 pM in hamsters. 5-Methoxyluzindole inhibits the binding of radioligands to melatonin receptors in median eminence/pars tuberalis membranes. 5-Methoxyluzindole mimics the in vivo antigonadal and body weight-reducing effects of melatonin in hamsters. 5-Methoxyluzindole can be used in research related to melatonin receptor-mediated diseases.

In Vitro
5-Methoxyluzindole is a potent inhibitor of 2-[125I]-iodomelatonin binding in Siberian hamster median eminence/pars tuberalis membranes, with a high-affinity Ki of 3 pM and a low-affinity Ki of 4 nM[2].
5-Methoxyluzindole shows 170-fold higher affinity for hMT2 than for hMT1 in transiently transfected COS-7 cells, with a 21-fold selectivity difference between mMT1/mMT2[3].
MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.
In Vivo
5-Methoxyluzindole (10 mg/kg; injection; daily; 14 days) does not prevent short-photoperiod-induced testicular regression in juvenile Siberian hamsters[2].

-
Animal Model:Phodopus sungorus sungorus (male, 3-5 months old)[2]
-
Dosage:10 mg/kg
-
Administration:injection; daily; 7 weeks
-
Result:Produced a profound decrease in testes weight and a lower body weight compared with vehicle-treated hamsters.
-
Animal Model:Phodopus sungorus sungorus (male, 18-day-old juveniles)[2]
-
Dosage:10 mg/kg
-
Administration:injection; daily; 14 days
-
Result:Exposed to short photoperiod, hamsters exhibited lower testes weights than long-photoperiod controls regardless of drug administration.
Did not block the inhibitory effect of endogenous Melatonin or affect testicular regression.
