Fructose-1,6-bisphosphatase (FBP1) is a key rate-limiting enzyme in the gluconeogenesis pathway, catalyzing the hydrolysis of fructose-1,6-bisphosphate into fructose-6-phosphate and inorganic phosphate. Expressed in the liver and kidneys, it is an important target for drug development in type 2 diabetes. Inhibiting FBP1 can reduce hepatic glucose output, thereby controlling blood glucose levels.
