Handling Instructions Technical Support

Blue dextran (Dextran blue) (MW 10000) is a 10 kDa osmotic dextran. Blue dextran (MW 10000) penetrates all sublayers of the pre-epithelial mucus gel layer in the rat distal colon and is taken up by the nuclei of surface cells in the rat distal colonic mucosa. Blue dextran (MW 10000) is not blocked by the pre-epithelial mucus gel layer of the rat distal colon, which acts as a diffusion barrier.

Description

Blue dextran (Dextran blue) (MW 10000) is a 10 kDa osmotic dextran. Blue dextran (MW 10000) penetrates all sublayers of the pre-epithelial mucus gel layer in the rat distal colon and is taken up by the nuclei of surface cells in the rat distal colonic mucosa. Blue dextran (MW 10000) is not blocked by the pre-epithelial mucus gel layer of the rat distal colon, which acts as a diffusion barrier[1][2].

In Vitro

Blue dextran (MW 10000) (Dextran blue (MW 10000)) is a conjugate formed by the binding of dextran to the Cibacron Blue 3G-A ligand, and is mainly used for the purification of human serum albumin[1].

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

In Vivo

Blue dextran (MW 10000) (10 mg/mL; intraluminally into distal colon segments) traverses the 30-50 μm thick pre-epithelial mucus gel layer of the rat distal colon and enters superficial mucosal cells in less than 1 minute, demonstrating no barrier effect from the PML[2].

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

Animal Model: Wistar AS/Ztm; Lewis (adult, both sexes, mean body weight 302 ± 52 g)[2]
Dosage: 10 mg/mL (200 μl total volume)
Administration: intraluminally into distal colon segments
Result: Traversed the 30-50 μm thick pre-epithelial mucus gel layer and was present in the nuclei of superficial distal colonic mucosal cells at 1 minute after administration.
Was homogeneously distributed throughout all pre-epithelial mucus gel layer sublayers and present in most superficial mucosal cells at 2 minutes after administration.
Remained distributed across all pre-epithelial mucus gel layer sublayers and was present in superficial mucosal cells at 10 minutes after administration.

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
