Carindacillin undergoes intestinal uptake via a proton gradient-driven carrier-mediated pathway and is rapidly hydrolyzed in vivo to release the bioactive Carbenicillin, which interferes with cell wall synthesis by inhibiting bacterial penicillin-binding proteins. Carindacillin can be used in research related to bacterial infections.
