CD82

CD82 is a tetraspanin originally identified in murine T cell hybrids and later isolated from prostate cancer as KAI1, the metastasis suppressor gene whose presence restrains dissemination of prostate, lung and several other carcinomas. Like other tetraspanins it spans the membrane four times and assembles into the tetraspanin-enriched microdomain network with integrins, E-cadherin and growth factor receptors, modulating their signaling and trafficking. CD82 expression is associated with favorable prognosis in some epithelial cancers yet with poor outcome in others, underlining its context-dependent function. It also potentiates immune cell function and is implicated in HIV and HTLV-1 entry studies.
