Isoindigo acts as the acceptor unit in donor-acceptor (D-A) conjugated polymers and belongs to the indigo dye family. Isoindigo contains two lactam rings and exhibits strong electron-withdrawing properties. Isoindigo can be used in dyeing and pigment preparation. Isoindigo shows high mobility and excellent environmental stability in field-effect transistors (FETs). Isoindigo possesses the activity to inhibit tumor cell proliferation and has certain anti-tumor activity.

Isoindigo (blended at 1:1 ratio with P3HT) functions as an n-type acceptor material in all-polymer solar cells, achieving a PCE of 0.5%[1].
Isoindigo (compound 1) exhibited antiproliferative activity against various human cancer cell lines (leukemia cell lines K562 and HL60, colon cancer cell line HCT116, and liver cancer cell line HuH7) and normal lung fibroblasts (IMR-90). The IC50 values of isoindigo against K562, HL60, and the liver cancer cell line HuH7 were 6.7 μM, 16.6 μM, 28.9 μM, and 16.3 μM, respectively[3].
