1. Metabolic Enzyme/Protease NF-κB Anti-infection
  2. Endogenous Metabolite NF-κB Fungal
  3. Chitin, from shrimp shells (powder)

Chitin, from shrimp shells (powder) is a long-chain polymer of N-acetylglucosamine with β-(1-4) linkages. Chitin, from shrimp shells (powder) is found in the exoskeleton of crabs. Chitin, from shrimp shells (powder) inhibits the activation of NF-κB p65, alters the translocation of NF-κB p65 to the nucleus, and interacts with the cell wall of Candida species. Chitin, from shrimp shells (powder) exerts antifungal and anti-inflammatory effects. Chitin, from shrimp shells (powder) can be used in the research of gastric ulcer and candidiasis.

Description

Chitin, from shrimp shells (powder) is a long-chain polymer of N-acetylglucosamine with β-(1-4) linkages. Chitin, from shrimp shells (powder) is found in the exoskeleton of crabs. Chitin, from shrimp shells (powder) inhibits the activation of NF-κB p65, alters the translocation of NF-κB p65 to the nucleus, and interacts with the cell wall of Candida species. Chitin, from shrimp shells (powder) exerts antifungal and anti-inflammatory effects. Chitin, from shrimp shells (powder) can be used in the research of gastric ulcer and candidiasis[1][2].

In Vitro

Chitin, from shrimp shells (powder) shows antifungal activity against 20 clinical isolates of Candida spp.[1].

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

In Vivo

Chitin, from shrimp shells (powder) (150-600 mg/kg BW; 13 days) significantly reduces the percentage of gastric ulcer index and inhibits NF-κB p65 expression in the Wistar rat model of ethanol-induced gastric ulcer[2].

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

Animal Model: Male Wistar rats (10-12 weeks old, 190-210 g) with Ethanol-induced gastric ulcer[2]
Dosage: 150, 300, 600 mg/kg
Administration: 13 days
Result: Decreased necrotic cells and fat degeneration, and increased normal cells in gastric mucosa.

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
