Copper(I) chloride
Based on 1 Customer Validation
Copper (I) chloride is an oxidizable, photodegradable cuprous chloride halide that converts to a dark green mixture of copper (II) chloride and basic copper (II) chloride upon exposure to humid air. Copper (I) chloride is ecotoxic and induces oxidative stress in Paphia undulata, with persistent effects after exposure ceases. Copper (I) chloride finds applications in multiple fields such as chemical industry and metallurgy, serving as a catalyst for various reactions and being used in the preparation of the fungicide copper oxychloride.

Actividad biológica
Copper (I) chloride forms CuCl (aq), CuCl2−, CuCl32−, Cu2Cl42−, and a tri-charged complex in HCl-HClO4 aqueous solution[1].
Copper (I) chloride can be prepared by reducing copper (II) chloride dihydrate with sodium sulfite; it can also form specific complexes with ammonia and hydrochloric acid, and can absorb carbon monoxide to form crystalline adducts[2].

Copper (I) chloride (0.045-0.90 mg/L; 96 h exposure) induces tissue-specific and dose-dependent oxidative stress in the digestive gland and gill tissues of Ruditapes decussatus. This substance upregulates the activities of CAT, Se-GPx and GST enzymes in the digestive gland, while downregulates the activities of SOD and GST enzymes in the gills. After 96 h of pollutant removal, all antioxidant biomarkers fail to recover[3].
