Elf18 is a peptide fragment of bacterial translation elongation factor Tu (EF-Tu). Elf18 can be recognized by plant pattern recognition receptors, thereby inducing an immune response. Elf18 can enhance plants' resistance to pathogens and can be used in research related to plant immune responses.

Biological Activity
Elf18 (300 nM; 30-90 min) can stimulate the production of H2O2 in Arabidopsis cells, but has no such effect in rice cells[1].
Elf18 (5 μM; 0-12 h) induces the expression of ELENA1 in 10-day-old wild-type Arabidopsis seedlings[2].
Elf18 (5 μM; 24 h) affects the expression of PR1 (pathogenesis related-gene 1) and PR2 (pathogenesis related-gene 2) in Arabidopsis plants with ELENA1 knockdown and overexpression[2].
