Description

(-)-Folicanthine is a dimeric tryptamine-related alkaloid found in the fruits of Chimonanthus praecox. (-)-Folicanthine shows cytotoxic against cancer cells. (-)-Folicanthine can be used for the research of cancer, such as gastric carcinoma and hepatocarcinoma[1].

In Vitro

(-)-Folicanthine (Compound 12) (72 h) exhibits cytotoxic activity against human gastric carcinoma NUGC3 cells, human hepatocarcinoma SNU739 cells, and human neuroblastoma SHSY-5Y cells, with IC50 values of 13.3 ± 1.5 μM, 17.0 ± 2.8 μM, and 60.1 ± 3.5 μM respectively, and shows no significant cytotoxicity against human breast cancer MCF-7 cells (IC50 >100 μM)[1].

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
