HDC - histidine decarboxylase Gene

Species: Homo sapiens

Gene Type: protein coding
Gene ID: 3067

About HDC

Cytogenetic location: 15q21.2 Genomic coordinates (GRCh38): 15:50,241,947-50,265,726 (from NCBI)

This gene has 7 transcripts (splice variants), 205 orthologues, 7 paralogues and is associated with 2 phenotypes. Broad expression in gall bladder (RPKM 9.0), stomach (RPKM 6.4) and 14 other tissues.

Summary

This gene encodes a member of the group II decarboxylase family and forms a homodimer that converts L-histidine to histamine in a pyridoxal phosphate dependent manner. Histamine regulates several physiologic processes, including neurotransmission, gastric acid secretion, inflamation, and smooth muscle tone.[provided by RefSeq, Aug 2010]
