TSQ is a cytosolic zinc ion fluorescence probe that is membrane permeable and can be used for intracellular imaging of zinc proteins (λmax ~470 nm). TSQ can combine with Zn2+ in the presence of Ca2+ and Mg2+ to produce blue fluorescence (Ex/Em = 334/495 nm).

     TSQ intracellular Zn2+ probe detection of temporal changes in Zn2+ release from ZnO and H-ZnO in cells. White arrow indicates fluorescence signal of intracellular zinc ion release. To further clarify intracellular Zn2+ release, the TSQ (30 µM; 30 min) probe was used to detect fluorescence in L929 cells. After 15 min of ZnO treatment, intracellular Zn2+ levels significantly increased and continued to rise over time.
