M&B 39279
M&B 39279 is an inhibitor of protoporphyrinogen oxidase (Protoporphyrinogen Oxidase). M&B 39279 induces protoporphyrin IX accumulation, light-dependent lipid peroxidation, degradation of membranes and organelles, and reduction of photosynthesis. M&B 39279 functions through the mechanism of action of diphenyl ether herbicides, and can be used for studies on PPO inhibition and herbicide mechanisms of action.

Biological Activity
M&B 39279 inhibits protoporphyrinogen oxidase in membranes of potato tuber mitochondria, maize etioplasts, mouse liver mitochondria and yeast mitochondria, with IC50 values of 15 nM, 80 nM, 0.5 μM and 3 μM, respectively[1].
M&B 39279 (100 μM; 3-30 hr light, 30 hr darkness) induces light-dependent diphenyl ether-type phytotoxicity in detached Galium aparine leaves. After treatment with 100 μM under 50 μmol m-2 sec-1 light for 3 hours, chloroplast envelope damage appears first, followed by progressive degradation of membranes and organelles, rapid loss of photosynthetic capacity, delayed chlorophyll degradation, and membrane leakage associated with lipid peroxidation[2].
