Description

Nicanartine, an orally active antioxidant and lipid-lowering compound, is an antiatherogenic drug. Nicanartine inhibits the oxidation of low-density lipoprotein (LDL).

In Vivo

Nicanartine inhibits smooth muscle cell proliferation after balloon catheter-induced endothelial injury and improves vascular reactivity as reflected by an increased response to acetylcholine-induced dilatation in cholesterol-fed and Watanabe rabbits[1].
