Phenazine ethosulfate
Based on 1 Customer Validation
Phenazine ethosulfate is a cationic dye (Ex=390 nm, Em=530 nm) and electron acceptor that can be used in dye-linked enzyme assays. Phenazine ethosulfate exhibits weak, pH-dependent fluorescence properties and serves as an oxidative substrate. Phenazine ethosulfate promotes the reduction of equine heart metmyoglobin to ferrohemoglobin. As an intermediate, Phenazine ethosulfate can be used in combination with ascorbic acid for the detection of nitric oxide reductase activity.

Biological Activity
Phenazine ethosulfate exists only in cationic form in buffered aqueous solutions with a pH range of 0-12, and its absorption spectrum does not change with pH. Its maximum absorption peaks are located at 387.5 nm, 440 nm, and 490 nm[2].
Phenazine ethosulfate (5.5 × 10-5 M; room temperature) exhibits weak pH-dependent fluorescence in aqueous buffer solutions: no fluorescence is observed under acidic conditions, weak fluorescence (524 nm) appears at neutral pH, and redshifted and enhanced fluorescence (530 nm) occurs under alkaline conditions[2].
Phenazine ethosulfate (5 μM) reduces equine heart metmyoglobin to ferrohemoglobin[3].
