Prostaglandin G2 is a prostaglandin peroxide. Prostaglandin G2 acts as a precursor for thromboxane A2 production, inducing platelet aggregation and serotonin release. Prostaglandin G2 also induces cerebral arteriole injury in anesthetized cats via the generation of reactive oxygen free radicals, triggering persistent vasodilation, reduced reactivity to hypocapnia, and endothelial damage. Prostaglandin G2 can be used in studies related to cerebral arteriole injury.

Description

Prostaglandin G2 is a prostaglandin peroxide. Prostaglandin G2 acts as a precursor for thromboxane A2 production, inducing platelet aggregation and serotonin release. Prostaglandin G2 also induces cerebral arteriole injury in anesthetized cats via the generation of reactive oxygen free radicals, triggering persistent vasodilation, reduced reactivity to hypocapnia, and endothelial damage. Prostaglandin G2 can be used in studies related to cerebral arteriole injury[1][2].

In Vitro

Prostaglandin G2 (0.6-1 μg) incubated with Indomethacin (HY-14397)-pretreated washed human platelets generates an unstable rabbit aorta contracting factor (thromboxane A2) with a half-life of 34 sec at 37 °C that induces strong contraction of isolated rabbit aorta strips[1].

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

In Vivo

Prostaglandin G2 (10 μg/mL; local administration under cranial window; single exposure for 15 min) induces cerebral arteriole injury in anesthetized cats[2].

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

Animal Model: Domestic cats (anesthetized with pentobarbital)[2]
Dosage: 10 μg/mL
Administration: topical application under cranial window; single 15-minute exposure
Result: Induced 30% residual arteriolar dilation (percent of control) 1 hour after removal.
Reduced arteriolar diameter decrease in response to arterial hypocapnia from 12% to 8% of control.
Caused 13.3 endothelial lesions per 2100 μm2 of pial arteriole surface.

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
