Sodium Sulphanilate
Based on 1 Customer Validation
Sodium Sulphanilate (Sodium 4-aminobenzenesulfonate) is a folic acid synthetase inhibitor and antifungal agent, as well as a structural analog of p-aminobenzoic acid, that competitively inhibits folate biosynthesis in fungal pathogens. Sodium Sulphanilate induces host disease resistance via changes in amino acid profiles, reduces chlorophyll content in peanut leaves at high concentrations, and controls rust diseases in various plant species. Sodium Sulphanilate is applicable to studies related to peanut rust.

Biological Activity
Sodium Sulphanilate (2 mg per reaction mixture; 20-90 min) is actively converted into a "pseudo-folate" conjugate by crude folate synthase extracts from peanut leaves, whereas enzyme extracts from yardlong beans lack this ability, indicating that the enzymes from the two plant species differ in their affinity for Sodium Sulphanilate[1].
Sodium sulfanilate (0.25%; 10-12 days post-inoculation) potently inhibits the formation of pustules caused by Puccinia arachidis on leaves of Arachis hypogaea Linn. var. Guangdong Oil 551, and this antifungal effect can be reversed by p-aminobenzoic acid and Folic acid (HY-16637)[2].
Sodium sulfanilate alters free amino acid metabolism in leaves of Arachis hypogaea Linn. var. Guangdong Oil 551, resulting in significant increases in aspartic acid, glycine, serine, and another 9 amino acids, and reducing threonine and proline to trace levels[2].
Sodium sulfanilate (0.25%, 1.249-3.333 ppm; at leaf expansion stage and 4 days after leaf expansion) causes a concentration-dependent decrease in chlorophyll content in newly expanded leaves of Arachis hypogaea Linn. var. Guangdong Oil 551. Chlorophyll content recovers significantly 4 days after leaf expansion, and no Sodium sulfanilate is detected in the chlorotic leaves[2].
