  3. Bremelanotide

Bremelanotide (PT-141) is a melanocortin receptor agonist. Bremelanotide can activate MC4R and increases dopamine release. Bremelanotide induces appetitive sexual behaviors, female mounting behavior, and repetitive self-grooming. Bremelanotide can be used for the research of hypoactive sexual desire disorders.

Description

Bremelanotide (PT-141) is a melanocortin receptor agonist. Bremelanotide can activate MC4R and increases dopamine release. Bremelanotide induces appetitive sexual behaviors, female mounting behavior, and repetitive self-grooming. Bremelanotide can be used for the research of hypoactive sexual desire disorders[1][2][3].

MC3R

In Vitro

Bremelanotide (10−3-105 nM) binds to MC3R and MC4R in a concentration-dependent manner[3].
Bremelanotide induces cAMP accumulation in cell-free assays with EC50 values of 0.4 nM for MC3R and 0.2 nM for MC4R[3].

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

In Vivo

Bremelanotide (50-200 μg/kg; s.c.) selectively increases appetitive sexual behaviors (solicitations, hops and darts) in hormone-primed ovariectomized female rats via activation of MC4R and dopamine release in the medial preoptic area[1].
Bremelanotide (0.01-10 mg/kg; i.p.; single dose) induces dose-dependent repetitive grooming behavior in male and female mice, with 1 mg/kg being the lowest effective grooming dose that does not cause anxiety-like behavior[2].

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

Animal Model: Female rats (ovariectomized, hormone-primed with estradiol and progesterone, or estradiol alone)[1]
Dosage: 50, 100, 200 μg/kg
Administration: Subcutaneously injection
Result: Increased solicitations in estradiol + progesterone-primed rats at 100 and 200 μg/kg.
Increased solicitations in estradiol-alone primed rats at 200 μg/kg.
Increased hops and darts in estradiol + progesterone-primed rats at 100 and 200 μg/kg.
Induced female mounting behavior at 200 μg/kg.

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
