Buthidazole
Buthidazole (VEL-5026) is a Herbicide. Buthidazole targets photosynthesis as its most sensitive and first-inhibited process, and inhibits RNA synthesis, lipid synthesis, and anthocyanin biosynthesis, while transiently stimulating dark respiration. Buthidazole reduces or prevents starch accumulation in bundle sheath chloroplasts, causing swelling and ultrastructural damage of mesophyll chloroplasts. Buthidazole damages corn seedlings at high doses.

Description
In Vitro
Buthidazole (0.28-1.12 kg/ha; 14 days after pre-emergence application) inhibits anthocyanin formation in the first leaf sheath of Pioneer 3780 maize at 0.28-1.12 kg/ha by 14 days after pre-emergence application, with 0.56 kg/ha producing the lowest absorbance (0.082) at 525 nm[1].
Buthidazole (0.1-100 µM; 30-120 min) inhibits photosynthesis in isolated Phaseolus vulgaris cv. "Tuscola" leaf cells, with 0.1 µM inhibiting 27-44% within 30-120 min and 100 µM inhibiting 86-88%[2].
