Protoanemonin
Protoanemonin is a natural unsaturated γ-lactone small molecule derived from plants of the Ranunculaceae family, possessing various activities such as plant growth regulation, antibacterial, and antifungal effects. Protoanemonin is a quorum sensing inhibitor that inhibits Pseudomonas aeruginosa quorum sensing, downregulates virulence factor expression, and activates the iron starvation response pathway. Protoanemonin possesses broad-spectrum antibacterial and antifungal activities, and also has antimutagenic activity. Protoanemonin exhibits bidirectional plant growth regulatory effects, promoting plant tissue elongation at low concentrations and inhibiting plant tissue elongation at high concentrations. Protoanemonin can be used in research related to bacterial quorum sensing, microbial metabolism, antibacterial and antifungal activity, antimutagenesis, and plant growth regulation.

Activité biologique
Description
In Vitro
Protoanemonin (20-160 μg/plate) reduces the mutation frequency induced by ultraviolet light and MNNG (HY-128612) in Escherichia coli B/r WP2 trp cells, with UV mutation AD50 = 30 μg/plate and MNNG mutation AD50 = 47 μg/plate[2].
Protoanemonin (0‑200 μg/3 mL soft agar) exhibits almost no cytotoxicity toward ultraviolet- and MNNG-induced Escherichia coli B/r WP2 Trp+ mutant clones, with a cell survival rate higher than 91.2% at a concentration of 200 μg/plate[2].
Protoanemonin (4×10-6-1×10-4 M; 48 h) inhibits the elongation of pea stem and oat coleoptile segments, while at low concentrations it produces a growth-promoting effect[3].
Protoanemonin can be generated from 4-chlorocatechol catalyzed by enzymes of the 3-oxoadipate pathway through muconate cycloisomerase-mediated dechlorination-decarboxylation conversion[6].
