Siccayne
Siccayne, found in the marine basidiomycete Halocyphina villosa and deuteromycete Helminthosporium siccans, is an antibiotic. Siccayne interferes with nucleotide incorporation into DNA and RNA, precursor transport enzymatic reactions, and essential macromolecule synthesis. Siccayne inhibits Gram-positive bacteria and some fungi. Siccayne can be used for research on infections caused by bacteria and fungi.

Biologische Aktivität
Siccayne inhibits the growth of select Gram-positive bacteria (with MICs from 10 to 50 μg/mL) and a small subset of fungi (at 50 μg/mL), while most tested bacteria and fungi are resistant at concentrations >50 μg/mL[1].
Siccayne (2-10 μg/2×106 cells) potently inhibits DNA synthesis (to ~10% of control) at 10 μg/2×106 cells in both normal and Rous-sarcoma-virus-transformed chicken embryo fibroblasts, with weaker inhibition of RNA and protein synthesis[1].
Siccayne (100 μg/mL) causes slight inhibition of DNA synthesis in toluene-treated Bacillus brevis cells, reducing dTTP incorporation to 62% of control at 100 μg/mL[1].
Siccayne (100 μg/mL) does not induce hemolysis of bovine erythrocytes at concentrations up to 100 μg/mL[1].
