Pithecolobine
Pithecolobine is a saponin-like alkaloid found in the bark, seeds, and leaves of Samanea saman. Pithecolobine can inhibit the growth of Gram-positive bacteria, Gram-negative bacteria, and pathogenic yeasts. Pithecolobine scavenges DPPH radicals. Pithecolobine can be used for the research of infections caused by pathogenic bacteria and yeasts.

Activité biologique
Pithecolobine (0.25 mg/disc) exhibits concentration-dependent antimicrobial activity against Escherichia coli NCIM 2065, Klebsiella pneumoniae NCIM 2957, Proteus vulgaris NCIM 2027, Pseudomonas aeruginosa NCIM 5031, Salmonella typhi NCIM 2051, Staphylococcus aureus NCIM 2079, Streptococcus faecalis NCIM 5025, Candida albicans NCIM 3471, and Cryptococcus neoformans NCIM 3541[2].
Pithecolobine (0.95-1000 μg/mL; 24-48 h) inhibits and kills Escherichia coli NCIM 2065, Klebsiella pneumoniae NCIM 2957, Proteus vulgaris NCIM 2027, Pseudomonas aeruginosa NCIM 5031, Salmonella typhi NCIM 2051, Staphylococcus aureus NCIM 2079, Streptococcus faecalis NCIM 5025, Candida albicans NCIM 3471, and Cryptococcus neoformans NCIM 3541[2].
Pithecolobine (31-1000 μg/mL; 30 min) scavenges DPPH radicals with an IC50 of 250 μg/mL in a cell-free in vitro assay[2].
Pithecolobine (1000 μg/mL; 2 h) inhibits β-Carotene (HY-N0411)/Linoleic acid (HY-N0729) bleaching by 70.4% at a concentration of 1000 μg/mL in a cell-free in vitro assay[2].
