Gambogin
Gambogin is an α-glucosidase inhibitor, found in the resin and dry latex of Garcinia hanburyi. Gambogin exists as an inseparable diastereomeric pair of C-2 epimers (8a and 8b), with 8a having an α-glucosidase inhibitory IC50 of 209.2 μM and 8b showing α-glucosidase inhibitory IC50 > 300 μM. Gambogin can be used for the research of type 2 diabetes and cervical cancer.

α‑glucosidase 209.2 μM (IC50) |
Gambogin (Compound 8) isomer 8a (20 min) modestly inhibits Saccharomyces cerevisiae α-glucosidase with an IC50 of 209.2 μM, while gambogin isomer 8b shows no inhibitory activity at concentrations up to 300 μM[1].
Gambogin (24 h) potently inhibits the growth of cultured HeLa and HEL #17 cells, with minimum inhibitory concentration values of 6.25 μg/mL and 3.13 μg/mL, respectively[2].
