Description

Hypoxystat is an orally active hypoxia mimetic. HypoxyStat increases Hemoglobin’s oxygen affinity, limiting oxygen offloading to the tissues and inducing local tissue hypoxia. In Vitro

HypoxyStat (10 mM; 1 h) increases oxygen-hemoglobin binding affinity in human red blood cells, as indicated by an ~82% decrease in p50[2].

In Vivo

HypoxyStat (600 mg/kg; p.o.; daily; 2.5 weeks) potently rescues high-fat diet-induced hyperglycemia and normalizes glucose tolerance in male C57BL/6J mice[1].
HypoxyStat (200-600 mg/kg; oral gavage; daily/every other day/single dose) extends lifespan by 3-4× and rescues neuropathological, behavioral, and physiological deficits in Ndufs4 knockout mice when administered preventatively, and retains efficacy when initiated at a late disease stage[2].
