Description

KMG-104 is a cell-impermeant highly selective fluorescent Mg2+ probe. KMG-104 has been used widely and revealed Mg2+ mobilization in cytoplasm in various types of cells[1].

In Vitro

KMG-104 can be introduced into cells by methods such as patch clamp and microinjection.
KMG-104 is suitable for confocal laser scanning microscopy because it is excited at 490 nm and emits fluorescence around 510 nm. The fluorescence intensity of KMG-104 increases with increasing Mg2+ concentration and shows no response to Na, K, or Ca2+. The dissociation constant (Kd) for magnesium is 3 mM. KMG-104 can only track changes in Mg2+ under physiological conditions[2].
The novel magnesium ion indicator KMG-104 and the calcium ion indicator fura-2 were loaded into PC12 cells to investigate intracellular magnesium ions in the endoplasmic reticulum, mitochondria, and Mg-ATP[2].

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
