Penitrem B exhibits weak or no cytotoxic activity against A549 and HL-60 cell lines^[1].
Penitrem B is obtained by extraction and purification from Fernbach cultures of Penicillium palitans NRRL 3468, with a yield of approximately 25 mg^[2].

In Vivo

Penitrem B (1.38-11.04 mg/kg; i.p.; single dose) is a tremorgenic mycotoxin with an acute intraperitoneal LD₅₀ of 5.84 mg/kg in mice; low doses induce detectable tremors, while high doses cause convulsions and lead to death^[2].
