Propionylthiocholine iodide
Propionylthiocholine iodide serves as a substrate for detecting the activities of acetylcholinesterase and pseudocholinesterase. Propionylthiocholine iodide acts as a substrate for intestinal epithelial cell-derived acetylcholinesterase and is resistant to hydrolysis by this enzyme.

Biologische Aktivität
Propionylthiocholine iodide (37°C) exhibits pseudocholinesterase activity of 3261 U/l and acetylcholinesterase activity of 3928 U/l in human whole blood, yielding an acetylcholinesterase-to-pseudocholinesterase ratio of 1.20[1].
Propionylthiocholine (1 mM) iodide is a poor substrate for the predominantly AChE activity present in Caco-2 human intestinal epithelial cells, with significantly lower hydrolytic activity observed compared to acetylthiocholine[2].
