Description

Xanthine oxidase, Microorganism (XO) is a xanthine oxidoreductase enzyme that generates reactive oxygen species (ROS), catalyzes the oxidation of hypoxanthine to xanthine, and further catalyzes the oxidation of xanthine to uric acid[1].

In Vitro

Xanthine oxidase rapidly and completely depletes hypoxanthine in human erythrocytes[2].
Xanthine oxidase (20 mU/mL, 72 h) inhibits growth of Plasmodium falciparum in human erythrocytes[2].
Xanthine oxidase (0.02 U/mL, 6 h) reduces the viability of postnatal cerebellar granule neurons obtained from 8-day old Sprague-Dawley rat pups[3].

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
