Atherosperminine hydrochloride
Atherosperminine (Atherospermine) hydrochloride is a phosphodiesterase inhibitor. Atherosperminine hydrochloride inhibits growth of chloroquine-resistant Plasmodium falciparum. Atherosperminine hydrochloride scavenges DPPH free radicals, exhibits ferric reducing power, and chelates metal ions. Atherosperminine hydrochloride can be used for the research of malaria.

Biological Activity
Atherosperminine (25-100 μM; 15 min) hydrochloride exerts concentration-dependent, non-specific inhibition of contractions induced by multiple agonists in isolated guinea-pig trachealis[1].
Atherosperminine (25-500 μM) hydrochloride induces concentration-dependent relaxation of carbachol-precontracted isolated guinea-pig trachealis with an EC50 of 117.8 μM, an effect independent of β-adrenoceptors, ATP-sensitive K+ channels, and tracheal epithelium[1].
Atherosperminine (25-50 μM; 15 min) hydrochloride potentiates forskolin-induced relaxation of carbachol-precontracted isolated guinea-pig trachealis by 2.4-fold and 5.0-fold, respectively[1].
Atherosperminine (50-250 μM; 5 min) hydrochloride concentration-dependently increases cAMP content in isolated guinea-pig trachealis without altering cGMP content[1].
Atherosperminine (25-2500 μM; 30 min) hydrochloride potently inhibits cAMP phosphodiesterase (IC50 = 56.8 μM) and weakly inhibits cGMP phosphodiesterase (IC50 = 693.3 μM) in guinea-pig trachealis homogenate[1].
Atherosperminine hydrochloride exhibits antioxidant activity, with an IC50 value of 54.53 μg/mL for DPPH radical scavenging, and demonstrates metal chelating activity with an IC50 of 42.87 μg/mL[2].
Atherosperminine hydrochloride exhibits antiplasmodial activity, with an IC50 value of 5.80 μM[2].
