Mannose 1-phosphate is a phosphorylated mannose that serves as a precursor of GDP-mannose, a constituent unit of glycosylation biosynthetic pathways. Mannose 1-phosphate increases intracellular GDP-mannose concentration, promotes normalization of lipid-linked oligosaccharide structures, and enhances the formation of mature N-glycans on cellular proteins. Mannose 1-phosphate can be used in studies related to glycosylation disorders[1].

In Vitro

Mannose 1-phosphate (1 mM; 24 h) significantly improves global N-glycosylation by increasing mature Man6+ high mannose and complex/hybrid glycopeptides, and reduces immature smaller glycans, in PMM2-CDG, ALG2-CDG, and ALG11-CDG skin fibroblasts, with the most dramatic effects observed in PMM2-CDG and ALG2-CDG cells[1].
