Norbornane is a component of the essential oil extracted from the rhizomes of Cyperus rotundus from Morocco. Active derivatives of Norbornane are fused heterocyclic compounds with in vitro anti-tumor and anti-Trypanosoma brucei activities. Norbornane and its derivatives can be used in research related to cancers such as leukemia and African trypanosomiasis.

Description

Norbornane is a component of the essential oil extracted from the rhizomes of Cyperus rotundus from Morocco. Active derivatives of Norbornane are fused heterocyclic compounds with in vitro anti-tumor and anti-Trypanosoma brucei activities. Norbornane and its derivatives can be used in research related to cancers such as leukemia and African trypanosomiasis[1][2].

In Vitro

Norbornane accounts for 0.09% of the essential oil extracted from the rhizomes of Cyperus rotundus L. from Morocco, and this result is confirmed by GC-MS analysis[1].
Norbornane-fused thiopyranothiazole active derivatives selectively restrain leukemia cells and completely inhibit colon cancer cell proliferation, while related analogs suppress Trypanosoma brucei. These derivatives bind targets via hydrophobic interactions and induce tumor cell cycle arrest and apoptosis[2].

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
