  3. Roxindole

Roxindole (EMD 49980), an indot-alkyl-pipenidine, is a potent agonist at dopamine autoreceptors, with an affinity for the D2-like subtype in the low nanomolar range. Roxindole can be used for the research of positive and negative schizophrenic symptoms. Roxindole is a 5-HT1A agonist and 5-HT uptake inhibitor. Antipsychotic and antidepressant activities.

At equivalent molar concentrations, both the salt and free forms of a compound exhibit comparable biological activity. Nevertheless, the salt form (Roxindole hydrochloride) usually boasts enhanced water solubility and stability.

Description

Roxindole (EMD 49980), an indot-alkyl-pipenidine, is a potent agonist at dopamine autoreceptors, with an affinity for the D2-like subtype in the low nanomolar range. Roxindole can be used for the research of positive and negative schizophrenic symptoms. Roxindole is a 5-HT1A agonist and 5-HT uptake inhibitor. Antipsychotic and antidepressant activities[1][2][3].

In Vivo

Roxindole inhibits apomorphine-induced climbing in mice and stereotyped behavior in rats with ED50s of 1.4 mg/kg s.c. and 0.65 mg/kg s.c., respectively, and inhibits conditioned avoidance response in rats (ED50=1.5 mg/kg s.c.)[1].
Roxindole (EMD 49980) (1, 3, 10 mg/kg; s.c) inhibits both effects of 8-OH-DPAT (flat body and forepaw treading) in normal rats (male Wistar 200-350g)[3].

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
