β-Rubromycin inhibits equipotently HIV-1 RT and avian myeloblastosis virus RT, in a concentration-dependent manner, and is significantly weaker as an inhibitor of calf thymus DNA polymerase α[1].
A kinetic study of the inhibition by β-Rubromycin revealed a competitive interaction with respect to the telomerase substrate primer, with a Ki of 0.74 μM, whereas a mixed type inhibition was observed with respect to the nucleotide substrate[2].
