Description

Antifungal agent 158 is an α-pyrone derivative that can be found in Trichoderma harzianum, exhibiting antifungal activity against select plant-pathogenic fungi, including Chaetomium spp., Curvularia lunata, and Aspergillus flavus. Antifungal agent 158 is non-toxic to greenhouse-grown bean, corn, and tobacco plants. Antifungal agent 158 can be used for research on Aspergillus flavus infection[1].

In Vitro

Antifungal agent 158 (compound 6-Pentyl-α-pyrone) (10-6-10-3 M) significantly inhibits the growth of etiolated wheat coleoptiles (Triticum aestivum L., cv. Wakeland) at 10-3 M[1].
Antifungal agent 158 (1:50-1:10 dilutions in acetone) inhibits the growth of Chaetomium cochlioides 195, Chaetomium cochlioides 189, Chaetomium spinosum 193, Curvularia lunata 49, Aspergillus flavus, and Escherichia coli at specific dilutions (1:10 to 1:40) but does not inhibit Bacillus subtilis[1].

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
