Cyprinol
Cyprinol (5α-Cyprinol) is an orally active bile salt and xenochemical pheromone. Cyprinol impairs renal function and increases plasma ALP activity in rats, induces diel vertical migration in Daphnia spp., enhances the permeability of the rectal mucosa to water-soluble compounds, and aids lipid digestion in fish. Cyprinol can be used in studies of fish toxicity and acute renal failure.

Biologische Aktivität
Cyprinol (1-140 mM; 30 min) exhibits hemolytic activity against sheep red blood cells, with an ED50 of 4.3 mM[2].
Cyprinol (25 mM; 15, 30 min) increases protein release from everted rat rectal sacs in vitro[2].

Cyprinol (6.25-50 mM; rectal administration; single dose) potently enhances the permeability of water-soluble compound Ampicillin sodium (HY-B0522A) across rat rectal mucosa, with activity detectable at a concentration of 6.25 mM. Calcium ions do not inhibit its permeability-enhancing effect[2].
Cyprinol (10-10700 pM; aqueous exposure; continuous; 3-4 days) induces diel vertical migration in Daphnia magna[3].

Further increased AMP Na absorption when co-administered with 25 mM calcium ion at 25 mM.
Significantly suppressed the absorption-enhancing effect when co-administered with 12.5 mM phosphatidylcholine dipalmitoyl at 25 mM.
