Description

Bornesitol is a natural cytotoxic agent found in Michelia compressa var. lanyuensis. Bornesitol exhibits cytotoxic and antiproliferative activities, and can be used in melanoma research[1].

In Vitro

Bornesitol (1-100 μM; 24 h) shows no cytotoxicity against B16F10 melanoma cells at concentrations of 1 μM or 10 μM after 24 h of incubation, but induces cytotoxicity at a concentration of 100 μM[1].
Bornesitol (5 μM; 48 h) weakly inhibits tyrosinase activity in B16F10 melanoma cells after incubation at 5 μM for 48 h, with an inhibition rate of 3.06%[1].
Bornesitol (5 μM; 48 h) exerts only an extremely weak inhibitory effect on melanin content in B16F10 melanoma cells, with an inhibition rate of 0.89% after 48 h of incubation[1].

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

Cell Viability Assay[1]

Cell Line: B16F10 melanoma cells
Concentration: 1 μM; 10 μM; 100 μM
Incubation Time: 24 h
Result: Did not reduce B16F10 cell viability relative to vehicle control at 1 μM and 10 μM.
Caused cytotoxicity, reducing cell viability relative to vehicle control at 100 μM.

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
