(+)-Eseroline binds specifically to μ-opioid receptors and δ-opioid receptors on rat brain cell membranes (K_a=0.7 μM). (+)-Eseroline (0-100 μM; 10 min) inhibits adenylate cyclase activity in NG108-15 cell membranes with a K_i of 6-8 μM, acts as a lower-efficacy opiate agonist relative to (-)-Eseroline, and functions as an antagonist of both (-)-Eseroline and the opioid peptide dalamid^[1].
