Having two maleimide axial substituents, Mal-Pc exhibits faster accumulation in cancer cells and then can react with GSH to deplete GSH and reduce aggregation, thereby improving ROS-mediated anticancer effect of PDT^[1].
The fluorescence imaging demonstrated that Mal-Pc eliminate from normal cells faster due to the highly hydrophilic reaction product^[1].
