Decussatin is an α-Amylases inhibitor isolated from the Tibetan medicinal plant Swertia mussotii. By inhibiting the catalytic activity of α-Amylases, Decussatin reduces the hydrolysis of complex carbohydrates such as starch and the intestinal absorption of glucose, thereby lowering blood glucose levels in the body. Decussatin shows no significant in vitro antibacterial or antifungal activity. Decussatin can be used for the research of type 2 diabetes.

Description

Decussatin is an α-Amylases inhibitor isolated from the Tibetan medicinal plant Swertia mussotii. By inhibiting the catalytic activity of α-Amylases, Decussatin reduces the hydrolysis of complex carbohydrates such as starch and the intestinal absorption of glucose, thereby lowering blood glucose levels in the body. Decussatin shows no significant in vitro antibacterial or antifungal activity. Decussatin can be used for the research of type 2 diabetes[1][2][3].

In Vitro

Decussatin (8 mg/mL) shows no significant inhibitory activity against Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Staphylococcus aureus in in vitro antibacterial assays[2].
Decussatin exhibits an inhibition rate of 78.0% against α-amylase at a concentration of 1 mg/mL, and its inhibitory activity at this concentration is superior to that of Acarbose (HY-B0089) at the same concentration[3].

In Vivo

The crude hydromethanolic extract of Anthocleista vogelii-the source plant for Decussatin administration at 1 g/kg via oral gavage, once daily for 7 days-significantly reduces blood glucose levels in alloxan-induced diabetic albino Wistar rats. The stem bark extract achieves a peak blood glucose reduction rate of 69.68% on day 5, while the leaf extract reaches a peak reduction rate of 60.35% on day 7; both are more effective in lowering blood glucose than Glibenclamide (HY-15206)[3].

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
