Glutaryl-CoA
Glutaryl coenzyme A s an endogenous metabolite. Glutaryl coenzyme A acts on the E2k subunit to inhibit KGDHc. It serves as a substrate for the reverse reaction of E2k and does not affect the E1k or E3 subunits of KGDHc. Glutaryl coenzyme A exhibits weak inhibitory activity against citrate synthase. It can be used in research on glutaryl-CoA dehydrogenase deficiency (type I glutaric acidemia).

Description
In Vitro
Glutaryl coenzyme A (1 mmol/liter) does not directly inhibit the activity of respiratory chain complexes I-V in bovine heart submitochondrial particles[1].
Glutaryl coenzyme A acts as an uncompetitive inhibitor of purified porcine heart α-ketoglutarate dehydrogenase complex with respect to α-ketoglutarate, with a slope inhibitor constant (Kis) of 0.35 mmol/liter[1].
Glutaryl coenzyme A (1 mmol/liter) is a substrate/product of the E2k (dihydrolipoyl succinyltransferase) subunit of porcine heart KGDHc but does not inhibit the E1k or E3 subunits[1].
Glutaryl coenzyme A (up to 2 mmol/liter) inhibits purified porcine heart pyruvate dehydrogenase complex to a lesser extent than it inhibits α-ketoglutarate dehydrogenase complex[1].
Glutaryl coenzyme A (up to 2 mmol/liter) has no significant direct effect on malate dehydrogenase, fumarase, aconitase, or isocitrate dehydrogenase, and only weakly inhibits citrate synthase in purified porcine heart TCA cycle enzyme preparations[1].
Glutaryl coenzyme A (up to 1 mmol/liter) does not directly inhibit the activities of SCAD, MCAD, or VLCAD in mouse liver homogenates[1].
